“Out of Bad Comes Good”……this is one of my guiding philosophies of life. On November 2nd, 2002, my Mother passed away after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. I joined in with family members and we looked after my Mom in her home in the last two months of her life. This time was difficult, sad, frustrating and painful for all of us. The last week in particular before my Mom passed away was the most difficult week of my life…..it was also one of the most transformative. Out of bad comes good…..from this experience I made a major life decision and have now been at Princess Margaret for 5 years. One of my earliest experiences at Princess Margaret was walking in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer. I couldn’t believe the emotion and passion of those walking. Everyone had a story of pain and loss from breast cancer….a wife, a mother, a grand mother, a brother, a sister, a friend. I also laughed and joked and met so many positive and incredible people on the walk. I spent time with Dr. Tak Mak, Dr. David McCready, Dr. Pam Catton, Dr. Mary G. and Dr. Ben Neel….the amazing doctors and researchers who work in the Campbell Family Institute for Breast Cancer Research. The Weekend to End Breast Cancer became a highlight of my year EVERY year I walked. The Weekend to End Breast Cancer is a SPECTACULAR PERSONAL JOURNEY! This year, my sister Kim and her husband Bill are walking. I am absolutely thrilled Kim and Bill will share in this Weekend. If you have walked in the Weekend before, I hope to see you in September and say hello and welcome back. If you haven’t walked, be ready for a major life experience. We still have some room for walkers so if you can think of anyone who deserves to have the “time of their life” and who has an interest in breast cancer, please invite them out to walk this September.
