Pro Bono

We have had an amazing breadth and depth of feedback on our new Princess Margaret ‘In Our Lifetime’ tv creative done by Y&R. We have had questions such as, “How much did it cost to shoot those incredible spots? Must have been a fortune!” In fact, I am delighted to confirm again that Y&R advertising did the spots ‘pro bono.’ Pro Bono is latin for ‘for the good’ (anyone else take latin in high school?). Pro bono in this context means ‘done for the public good without compensation.’ Y&R came up with the ‘creed’ document on which this creative is based. That work was done pro bono too, created by Judy Flanagan and Joe Hash, both with Y&R. Joseph Nanni and the creative team created the concept and creative for the tv spots pro bono. Nearly 100% of all the film and other costs were also contributed pro bono, as was editing, etc. Finally, EMI Publishing supplied the AMAZING soundtrack, ‘Bittersweet Symphony,’ in conjunction with both The Verve and The Rolling Stones, both of whom wrote the song. That, too, was contributed pro bono.

I have a natural bias here but I think this Princess Margaret ‘In Our Lifetime’ tv creative is spectacular….not just good, but way beyond good. It tells a complex and emotional story so well. Brilliant creative contributed – pro bono -- by Y&R.

We have the support and pro bono work of so many groups and individuals. The not-for-profit sector relies heavily on pro bono work. Y&R has done some of the best ads I have ever seen and they did this work for free….from the heart….pro bono.

From the heart….pro bono…’for the good.’ Thanks, Y&R. and all who do this kind of generous work for worthy causes like ours!
