Opportunity and the Demons of Pessimism

Posted by Paul

Without question we are in the midst of a major economic downturn with the only question being “how long will it last”. Its easy to let pessimism creep in to all conversation and plans. Around PMH, we are focusing on a quote from a speaker at an event several weeks back who said “The Optimist sees opportunity in pessimism. The Pessimist sees pessimism in opportunity”. I think we are realistic around PMH….being neither pessimists or unusually optimistic. However, we are working hard on “opportunities” as we see them. New opportunities to engage the community we serve. Opportunities to make changes to major events like the Weekend to End Breast Cancer and the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Opportunities to raise the funds necessary to support our amazing researchers and clinicians in their world beating work. We have had the good fortune to be supported in a significant way by the communities we serve. Having said that, we understand the world has changed and we need to think differently about everything we do. Our “rock in the storm” is our creed, our vision, ambition and belief we can “Help Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime”. If you are reading this blog then chances are you are a supporter of our community here. We will be reaching out to you as we make new and bold moves to ensure we remain “One of the top 5” in the world. We are realistic but also optimistic about our future and the work we do. If you have your good health….celebrate this gift. If you have cancer, help us…. Whether you are healthy or in need of care offered by PMH…..volunteer, buy a lottery ticket, make a donation, walk or ride or support an event. Above all, don’t give in to the demons of pessimism.
