Lottery Stewardship Event at PMH

Posted by Paul

Working at The Princess Margaret is really an incredible experience. It’s not about me, but about the amazing work that is done by people like Dr. Jon Irish and Dr. Ben Neel. We had a chance to let our Lottery ticket purchasers know how they are making a difference in cancer research last Saturday and what a great turnout it was.

I had an opportunity to speak with so many ticket buyers and find out how they were touched by cancer. Each person I spoke with had a story and a reason for buying a ticket. I feel that events such as these really help us to connect with our donors and allows us express to them how their funds are being used in the fight to conquer cancer. I was also surprised to see the people who came from out of town to the event. I bumped into an old friend from grade one while I was there! What a small world. Thanks Paul McGrath for making it out!.

The recognition we have received from the event made me proud to be a part of this organization. A great article was written in the Toronto Star by Joe hall on Saturday and I personally received a phone call from Victor Tyrer of the Department of Research and Innovations congratulating the Foundation on a great event.

On another note – I want to give a big thank you out to Anna Thomas and Vaffi Salon in Toronto for their fundraising success on Sunday, March 30. What a fantastic way to give back to the community, and The Princess Margaret!

Last June 06, I was on the front steps riding for the media launch to support the "Ride". On January 17th this year I was diagnosed with Head and Neck Cancer. I am being treated at the best facility PMH- I have completed 26 radiations- 9 to go and one more chemo next week. I am writing this to say that the staff at PMH are outstanding and bend over back wards to help you- the support net work is fantastic. I am the Captain of TeamCureCancer and I will be at the finish line with my Team on June 22, thanks to PMH. I got the gift of life- I will never be able to pay back fully for this gift- expect I will be on the "Ride" every year to come to support PMH and those that are being treated.
