Our great friend and one of the most inspirational people I have known-Joe Finley-passed away on Sunday. I visited Joe and Cara on Thursday evening just before the Ride celebration. Joe was a warrior and all who knew him were inspired by this great man. Joe did so much for so many. Joe was the energy and driving force behind Joe’s Team. My favourite story (of many) about Joe is when, two summers ago, I blew a tire half way through the ride portion of the tri and found Joe sitting on the side of the road. He had taken a nasty tumble off his bike but was refusing to give up and refusing to take a ride back to camp. Finally, with much gentle persuading, Joe climbed into a sweep van and travelled back to the CNIB camp. That was Joe….never giving up. All of us who had the good fortune of knowing Joe lost an friend and an inspired leader…..but we did not lose the inspiration he left us with. Joe Finley, we will miss you but we will celebrate you and remember you always.
