Registrations for ROAD HOCKEY TO CONQUER CANCER have officially started with the kick-off of an incredible event yesterday at Yonge-Dundas square. I was there all day and if yesterday is any indication of what the actual event will be like on October 1, 2011, it’s going to be INCREDIBLE! The number of celebrities and media personalities who came out and played in the pouring rain to show their support was amazing– thank you! A full list of everyone who played in the two feature games are listed below – we couldn’t have done it without you.

A special thanks to all of the speakers for helping us out: Curtis Joseph, Pierre McGuire, Scotty Bowman, Steve Silverstone and Paul Henderson. Thanks also to Drs. Bell, Crump, Finelli, Irish, Laperriere and Neel for speaking so eloquently. There were several memorable lines but one of my favourites is when Paul Henderson said that he wants to “be around when we conquer cancer, so we better get off of our arse and find a cure to help him out!” Colourful and fantastic, and couldn’t be anymore “Canadian” eh?!!

Thanks to the team at PMHF in the Strategic Initiatives department for working so diligently to launch this epic event. Well done! And to everyone at SDI – Nick, Oliver and the rest of your team, thank you.

Despite rain for much of the day, a brilliant sunshine came through the clouds at around 12:15, just as one of the games was coming to a close. That sunshine serves as a great metaphor for conquering cancer. ROAD HOCKEY TO CONQUER CANCER, most importantly, is going to raise critical funds for The Princess Margaret to help conquer cancer, in our lifetime.
