This is an historic day for cancer research in Canada. Today we announced the expansion of the Campbell Family Cancer Research Institute and an extraordinary gift from the Campbells of $37.5 million. Linda, Gaye and Susan, the daughters of the late Audrey Campbell, have put their faith and confidence in the research organization at The Princess Margaret that now bears their family name. The Campbells have been very generous in the past and have donated a total of $30 million for breast cancer research and for image guided research. This new donation will allow the Campbell Family Research Institute to expand its impact in the world of cancer research and to improve its sustainability into the future. Under the leadership of Dr. Tak Mak and Dr. Ben Neel, we have assembled and will continue to build one of the great cancer research organizations in the world. For more information on the Campbell Family Institute, go to www.campbellfamilyinstitute.ca. Toronto is a leader in biomedical research. Cancer research is particularly important in the discovery district in Toronto. The leadership of the Campbell family and the desire of Linda, Gaye and Susan to multiply the impact of the basic science here and to sustain some of the world’s great scientists working on the mysteries of cancer is something we are so grateful for. We will be updating progress on a regular basis on the Campbell Family Institute website mentioned above and please check in on a regular basis as we will continue to update the site with the exciting work going on here. The generosity of the Campbell family will be felt by this and future generations of cancer researchers here, as well as globally. This is an historic day for The Princess Margaret and an important step towards our vision: To Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime. In combination with the $22 million raised at the Brazilian Ball for oncology nurses, this has been quite a month for The Princess Margaret. We are so passionate about what we do here and we are so appreciative of our donor community who support us in such a significant way. Linda, Gaye and Susan, we can’t thank you enough. Today is a great day!
