Last night we were honoured to receive the national award for Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures of 2010. I am so proud that out of 276 eligible organizations and 98 finalists, The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation was recognized as one of the top 10 corporate cultures from across Canada!
The awards are presented by Waterstone Human Capital, to recognize Canadian organizations that have great cultures. PMHF was selected as a regional winner last October, and just last night we attended the gala to celebrate the top 10 organizations. Other winners included Aeroplan, Discount Car and Truck Rentals, Maple Leaf Foods, P&G, The Home Depot, Blinds to Go, Canadian Western Bank, Desjardins, Flight Centre, HOOPP, as well as up-and-comer, Clearly Contacts.
Waterstone held a Summit in the afternoon, in which I delivered the keynote with my esteemed colleagues Sherri Freedman and Christine Lasky. As a social enterprise, PMHF uses the best practices of both the for-profit sector and not-for-profit sector, to achieve maximum effectiveness and efficiency. With a staff of 54, PMHF raises $1.3 million per employee and $70 million net annually. PMHF inspires over 750,000 people to support The Princess Margaret, either through epic events like The Shoppers Drug Mart® Weekend to End Women’s Cancers™, The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer®, the lotteries, major and planned giving, community programs, direct mail as well as hundreds of events that take place, every year.
We shared with the group about the amazing culture at PMHF and what makes it so great - much of which has to do with our incredible community of supporters and donors.
The evening was a great night of celebration and an opportunity to “show” our culture to the group of about 500. A very special thanks to Dr. David Loach, who assisted PMHF by getting the crowd to sing GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS.
Lastly – a very special thanks to our wonderful supporters, to our volunteers, the PMHF board and of course, our staff. Pictures will come soon!
