When you work around and with cancer patients and staff every day, you
realize the depth and breadth of the human stories that play out
thousands of times every day in hospitals around the world. The
wonderful and amazing Andy Barrie of CBC Radio fame (99.1FM in Toronto)
has launched a series called “First the Bad News”. Andy has had his own
personal experience with cancer and with Princess Margaret Hospital.
The programs run at 7:40 a.m. on 99.1 and are authentic, hopeful and
yes, sad at the same time. Telling the story of being diagnosed with
cancer from the patient point of view is difficult. Telling the story
of treatment and research is equally as challenging. The way that Andy
and the team at CBC have woven together the personal stories and the
docs and researchers who are on the front line is nothing short of
spectacular. I hope you can tune in to CBC Radio – 99.1 at 7:40 a.m.
every morning until Thursday, February 11th. Check out the link at http://www.cbc.ca/toronto/features/bad-news/.
Thanks to the patients, the docs, the nurses, Andy and his colleagues
at CBC, and all who have contributed to this wonderful program.
Finally, Andy has decided to retire as we are probably all aware, and
he will be missed because he is one of the great Canadian story
tellers. Andy Barrie, thanks for telling this powerful story.
